Sermon Jazzers
     from Voicings Publications

Each day SearchGodsWord.org and Voicing Publications posts for our users a fresh Sermon Jazzer illustration handpicked for usage with the "Sunday Sermon".

Today's Sermon Jazzer deals with the subject of 'happiness'. Click here to preview today's "Sunday Sermon."

In a delightful book called "To See a World in a Grain of Sand," C. L. James tells the fable of a wise old cat who notices a kitten chasing its tail. "Why are you chasing your tail so?" asked the wise old cat. The kitten replied, "I have learned that the best thing for a cat is happiness, and happiness is my tail. Therefore, I am chasing it; and when I catch it, I shall have happiness." To which the wise old cat responded, "My son, I too have paid attention to the problems of the universe. I too have judged that happiness is in my tail. But, I noticed that whenever I chase after it, it keeps running away from me, and when I go about my business, it just seems to come after me wherever I go."

Each week two new illustrations are posted from the "Handbook of Pulpit Humor: 101 Humorous Sermon Illustrations.

Illustration #1 deals with the subjects of 'creation, hand of god and jesus'.

In the book entitled, "The Girls With the Grandmother Faces," the author1 fondly recalls a conversation she had with her six-year-old grandson:

"Grandma, did you know God made the world in six days with His left hand?"

"Honey, the Bible does say God created the world in six days, but what do you mean with His left hand?"

"Well, the way I figure it, God had to create the world with His left hand because Jesus was sitting on His right hand."

Illustration #2 deals with the subject of 'romantic love and advantage'.

A young man declares his undying love for his girl friend. "I love you with all my heart; I love you more than life itself; my love would move mountains and change the course of mighty rivers for you," he says fervently. To which his girl friend replies, "Would you come over Saturday and help me clean my junk out of the garage?" The young man answers, "I hate people who take advantage."
